At Traverse City Web Design, we’re not just building websites — we’re building brands, stories, and experiences that help local businesses thrive. Whether it’s crafting a powerful online presence, designing eye-catching visuals, or helping a business capture its unique voice, we’re here to do whatever it takes to move the needle. Our latest project with TC Boat Tours is a perfect example of that mindset: they came to us looking for a minimal logo, and we delivered a clean, confident brand identity that captures the spirit of their business — and gets noticed.
What we delivered was much more than just a logo. It was a collaborative journey that started with a spark of inspiration and ended with a bold, blue mark that the TC Boat Tours team absolutely loves.
Starting with the Brief
TC Boat Tours came to us with a clear direction:
- Keep it minimal
- Include a boat graphic
- Use their business name
- Make it clean and easy to read
That gave us a solid foundation to work from — and from there, the creative process began.
We explored a range of ideas built around a few constants: a bold blue palette (to evoke the clear waters of Traverse City), a slightly chunky sans-serif font (friendly and legible), and a simple line-art speedboat to give the logo energy and motion without overcomplicating the design.
Early Concepts & Design Evolution
As you’ll see in the images featured below, we provided TC Boat Tours with several early versions of their logo. Each version leaned into different aspects of their brand identity:
- One featured a slightly tilted boat to emphasize speed and momentum.
- Another focused on a more symmetrical design for balance and stability.
- A third version experimented with stylized waves beneath the boat, hinting at the fun and scenic nature of the tours.
We always provide multiple drafts and variations in our design process. Why? Because we believe logo development is collaborative. Each version serves as a conversation starter — a visual stepping stone that brings us closer to the ideal.
The Final Logo
The final design is crisp, modern, and full of local flavor.
- A clean blue color scheme instantly ties the brand to the water.
- The line-art speedboat is sleek and minimal — just enough detail to evoke motion without clutter.
- The slightly chunky sans-serif typeface is bold, modern, and — most importantly — easy to read across signage, apparel, and digital media.
It captures the essence of the business: professional yet playful, local yet ready to compete with the big guys.
And best of all? They love it.
Why We Love Projects Like This
Designing for a Traverse City business like TC Boat Tours is extra rewarding. Not just because we’re local, too, but because we know the setting. We know what “tropical blue” means in this part of Michigan. We’ve seen that color light up West Grand Traverse Bay on a sunny summer morning — and we wanted to make sure their logo captured that same spark.
It’s also a great example of how a minimal style doesn’t mean boring. With the right mix of color, shape, and typography, a clean logo can still have personality — and versatility.
