Traverse City Web Design — Freelance, Remote
Traverse City Web Design is seeking a freelance Web Design Assistant to support ongoing website builds, updates, and digital projects for businesses across Michigan and beyond. This is a flexible, fully remote position ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable working across a variety of web and content tasks.
This role is a great entry point into professional web design and development, with the opportunity to grow into a larger role over time.
Responsibilities
- Update and manage websites using WordPress and Elementor
- Perform general website edits, layout adjustments, and content updates
- Source high-quality images, graphics, and fonts from approved libraries and partners
- Set up base WordPress installations on hosting servers
- Assist with website migrations between servers using internal tools
- Perform foundational SEO tasks, including updating page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, image alt tags, and internal links
- Format and clean content for publishing, including text, images, and layout consistency
- Use AI tools such as ChatGPT and other LLMs to help generate and refine content
- Assist with general digital tasks as projects come in
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with WordPress and Elementor, or the ability to learn quickly
- No coding is required, but a very basic understanding of how code works is helpful
- Basic familiarity with cPanel or web hosting environments
- Strong text editing and formatting skills
- Basic photo and graphic editing skills, including cropping, resizing, and simple adjustments
- Ability to source and evaluate visual assets such as images, fonts, and icons
- Comfort using AI tools like ChatGPT and other large language models to assist with content creation
- General knowledge of social media platforms and how they are used
- Strong attention to detail and organization
Work Style
- Self-starter with the ability to learn independently and solve problems
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating clearly
- Able to manage tasks as they are assigned and follow through to completion
- Flexible availability, with schedule and hours worked out together based on incoming projects
Compensation & Growth
- $20 per hour to start
- Initial six-month period, with opportunity for a raise based on performance and skill development
- Opportunity to grow into a client account management role
- Ongoing training and hands-on experience working on live client websites
