When we are not designing websites for companies in Traverse City, Northern Michigan, and across the state, we like to keep our creative machinery running with small graphic design experiments.
This desktop wallpaper came out of one of those experiments. It began with an iconic image from our past — a graphic inspired by Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book. Rather than simply reproduce the image, we wanted to reinterpret it as something more stark, minimal, and modern. We stripped the design down, pushed the contrast, simplified the shapes, and transformed it into a bold desktop wallpaper with a more graphic, poster-like quality.
The result is part nostalgia, part design exercise. It takes a familiar childhood image and reworks it through a cleaner, more abstract visual language. The final wallpaper feels less like a movie still and more like a piece of graphic art — sharp, simple, and designed to live quietly in the background of a computer desktop.
These kinds of side projects are important to us. Graphic design is not just about client work. It is also about play, experimentation, and seeing what happens when familiar images are pushed in a new direction. Small creative exercises like this help keep our design instincts fresh. They give us room to test ideas, explore composition, experiment with color and contrast, and sharpen the visual thinking we bring back into our website projects.
They also work well as creative marketing content. A custom wallpaper, poster, icon set, or experimental graphic can reach people in ways a traditional web design portfolio piece might not. These projects give Traverse City Web Design additional opportunities to appear in search engines, social media feeds, image searches, and design-related conversations. They help show another side of our work — not just the technical side of building websites, but the creative side that shapes how those websites look and feel.
For a web design company, this kind of content matters. Strong websites are built from more than code, layouts, and calls to action. They also depend on visual imagination. The same eye that can turn a classic animated image into a stark desktop wallpaper can also help shape a homepage, refine a brand, create a better visual hierarchy, or make a business look more memorable online.
You can download the desktop wallpaper below and use it to add a little bit of strange, nostalgic jungle energy to your own computer desktop.
