The Internet Changed This Spring. We’re Changing With It.

You might not have noticed it yet, but the internet is shifting again.

Google is changing how search works. Traditional organic results still matter, but they are no longer the whole picture. AI summaries, curated answers, video results, directory listings, maps, and real-time recommendations are all becoming part of how people find businesses online.

For small businesses, local companies, nonprofits, and organizations, this matters.

A website can no longer sit online as a simple digital brochure. It needs to be clear, fast, useful, trustworthy, and easy for both people and search tools to understand.

A Cleaner Website Matters More Than Ever

At Traverse City Web Design, we are taking this shift seriously.

We are cleaning up our own website, tightening the structure, improving the content, and making sure TraverseCityWebDesign.com is lean, organized, and built on a strong foundation.

That means looking closely at how the site works from the inside out.

  • Are the pages easy to understand?
  • Are the headings clear?
  • Are the services explained well?
  • Are the internal links useful?
  • Does the site clearly show who we are and where we work?

These details used to be important. Now they are essential.

Search Is Becoming More AI-Driven

For years, search was fairly simple.

Someone typed a phrase into Google, looked through a list of links, and clicked the result that seemed most helpful.

That still happens, but the search page is becoming more curated. Google and other platforms are now answering questions directly, summarizing information, comparing businesses, and pulling details from many different sources.

That means a website is no longer just competing for a ranking.

It is competing to be understood.

It is competing to be trusted.

It is competing to be cited by search engines, AI tools, and the broader web.

Structure Sends a Signal

A messy website sends messy signals.

A clean website sends clear ones.

That is why structure matters so much. Good structure helps visitors move through a site easily. It also helps search engines and AI systems understand what the site is about.

We are focusing on the basics that make a website stronger:

  • Cleaner page structure
  • Better heading hierarchy
  • Stronger internal linking
  • Improved page titles and descriptions
  • More useful service pages
  • Faster, leaner pages
  • Clearer location and business signals

None of these things are flashy by themselves. But together, they create a much stronger website.

Schema and Clarity Are Now Part of the Foundation

We are also adding more schema and structured data to our site.

Schema helps search engines understand what a page means. It can identify a business, its services, its location, its articles, its videos, its frequently asked questions, and other important details.

For Traverse City Web Design, this helps reinforce the facts that matter:

  • We are a Michigan web design company.
  • We are based in Traverse City.
  • We build custom websites.
  • We work with WordPress, Elementor, WooCommerce, SEO, hosting, and long-term website management.
  • We serve businesses, nonprofits, libraries, municipalities, law firms, and entrepreneurs.

Those facts should not only appear once on one page. They should be reflected across the structure of the website in a natural, useful way.

The goal is not to stuff the site with repeated keywords. The goal is to make the site clear.

We Are Thinking Beyond Google Search

Google still matters. It matters a lot.

But it is no longer the only way people discover a business online.

Visitors may now find a company through YouTube, social media, directory listings, AI citations, local search, map results, image search, video search, newsletters, backlinks, and recommendations.

That means visibility has to come from more than one place.

At Traverse City Web Design, we are building a wider web of signals around our company. Our website is still the center of the strategy, but it is supported by other sources that help people find us and understand what we do.

Local Content Is Part of That Strategy

One of our strongest signals is our location.

Traverse City Web Design is rooted in Northern Michigan. We are based near the end of Old Mission Peninsula, and we work with clients throughout Traverse City, Northern Michigan, and across the state.

That local identity matters.

In a world full of generic content, real place stands out. Real photos matter. Real videos matter. Real stories matter. The woods, water, farms, bays, weather, and quiet edges of Northern Michigan are part of who we are.

We want our website and content to reflect that.

New Video: Call of the Night Frogs

Our new YouTube video, Call of the Night Frogs, is part of this larger approach.

The video was filmed at dusk on the edge of a Northern Michigan swamp, just north of Traverse City on Old Mission Peninsula. It is a quiet, stationary nature video facing the tree line as frogs call from the darkening marsh.

You can watch the video here:

On the surface, it is a simple ambient nature video.

But it also does something useful for our company. It gives people a real glimpse of where we live and work. It creates original local content. It supports our YouTube channel. It gives us something meaningful to share on our website and social media.

The New Internet Rewards Strong Foundations

The internet will keep changing. Search will keep changing. AI tools will keep changing how people find and evaluate information.

But strong foundations still matter. A clear, fast, well-organized website gives a business a better chance of being found, understood, and trusted.

At Traverse City Web Design, we are treating our own website as part of that future. We are cleaning it up, strengthening the structure, adding more schema, expanding our traffic sources, and leaning into our Northern Michigan roots.

The details matter now.

A website is no longer just a place where people land after searching. It is part of a much larger system of discovery, trust, citation, and connection.

Our goal is to make sure Traverse City Web Design is ready for that system — and to help our clients get ready for it too.
