At Traverse City Web Design, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new custom website for the LMAS District Health Department, the public health organization serving much of Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula. This 60-page website is one of our most extensive and community-focused projects to date — and we couldn’t be prouder of the result.
As a company deeply rooted in northern Michigan, we’re passionate about building websites that serve the public good. Whether we’re working with municipalities, libraries, health departments, or other civic organizations, we believe that thoughtful, well-designed digital spaces strengthen the communities they represent. Public institutions are the backbone of our cities and towns — and they deserve a strong online presence that reflects their mission, values, and services.
This kind of Michigan web design is at the heart of what we love to do: creating websites that are not just functional and modern, but also deeply meaningful to the people who use them. Every project with a city, township, or district is an opportunity to make essential services more accessible, help residents stay informed, and encourage community engagement — whether that’s by promoting public health resources, highlighting job opportunities, or keeping citizens connected through real-time updates and news.
The LMAS website is a perfect example of this mission in action, and we’re honored to have partnered with them on such an important tool for the Eastern U.P. community.
A Collaborative Effort for a Vital Cause
From the first meeting to final launch, this project was all about collaboration. We worked hand-in-hand with the leadership and team members across LMAS to create something that truly reflects their mission and values.
Our goal was simple: build a modern, accessible, and easy-to-manage website that the entire organization — and their community — can be proud of . . . and they love it!
The LMAS District Health Department plays a critical role in protecting and improving public health across four counties in the Eastern Upper Peninsula: Luce, Mackinac, Alger and Schoolcraft. From clinical services to environmental health programs, their work touches thousands of lives. Creating a digital home for such a vital institution is a responsibility we took seriously.
Designed With Purpose
The new website is built on a flexible WordPress framework, giving the LMAS team full control over their content in a user-friendly editing environment. We wanted to ensure that staff members — regardless of their technical background — could easily update pages, post news alerts, publish job listings, and keep the public informed without the need for ongoing developer involvement. WordPress is a natural choice for this kind of Michigan web design project, offering both power and simplicity for public institutions managing large amounts of critical information.
The homepage was thoughtfully designed with prominent, easy-to-navigate sections to help visitors find what they need quickly and efficiently. These include:
- Latest News and Health Updates
- Important Public Notices
- Job Opportunities
- Real-Time Facebook Feed Integration
The Facebook feed is especially important for LMAS, as their team uses social media as a primary channel for community outreach, public education, and emergency updates. We ensured this feed is fully integrated and optimized to look great on every device — whether someone is browsing from a desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
This design approach reinforces LMAS’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and engagement. By combining easy-to-manage content tools with smart visual layout, we’ve helped make their online presence more effective, responsive, and community-friendly. The new site is more than a facelift — it’s a foundation for better communication with the people they serve.
Mobile-First, Community-First
With residents accessing public health information from a variety of devices — phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops — responsive design was a top priority. The site functions seamlessly on all screen sizes, ensuring that no matter how someone visits the site, they get a clean, accessible, and user-friendly experience.
More Than a Build: An Ongoing Partnership
Our role didn’t stop at launch. Traverse City Web Design is proud to continue supporting LMAS through ongoing website hosting and management. We’re committed to keeping the site running smoothly, secure, and up to date — so their team can focus on what they do best: serving the health and wellbeing of their communities.
A Project Close to Our Hearts
Working with LMAS was a joy. The passion, collaboration, and input from everyone involved helped shape a website that serves both the department and the public in meaningful ways. Projects like this remind us why we do what we do — using thoughtful web design to connect people with the resources they need most.
We’re honored to play a part in supporting Michigan’s public health infrastructure and look forward to seeing the LMAS website grow and evolve in the years to come.
